Marial Williams

I have played violin for over 20 years and received my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I graduated with my Occupational Therapy Doctorate from Boston University in 2021, and since then have been working as an occupational therapist in the Chicagoland area. I am currently a hand therapist in the Endeavor Health network with special interests in working with musicians. I additionally work in prevention of injuries through presenting workshops and lectures on musician wellness, completing research on musician wellness, and presenting to colleagues in allied health sciences on how we can best work with musicians.

Music is a way to express ourselves and communicate in a different way with the world around us, and I have a huge appreciation for what musicians--both professional and amateur--do with their craft. For this reason, it is my goal to keep musicians in long, healthy careers. It is so important that musicians use their bodies well and avoid playing related pain.  Wellness is not just about the body, and it is important that we also address performance anxiety and how to keep balance in life as a musician.

If you are interested in finding more out about how occupational therapy can help improve your playing or are interested in a presentation to your healthcare or music department addressing musician wellness, please reach out.
